Acomplia may face competition from Similar Merck Drug
April 04, 2006
Sanofi's acomplia have stiff competition from similar
drug developed by Merck and Co. in only few years. Merck & Co.
also engaged in developing a diet drug like acomplia. This drug
is also cannabinoid CB-1 receptor drug and got some positive response
in a large late-stage clinical trial.
Merck's hope that its CB-1 receptor antagonist not only helps in
weight loss, it helps with the combination of conditions known as
metabolic syndrome which increases heart disease risk. If all the
things go ok and drug approved by FDA then it will be in market
by 2009 or before it. This seems that after launching the Merck
weight loss drug it have to face a very hard competition.
