Indian pharma plans clinical trials for a drug similar
to Acomplia
February 13, 2006
An Indian pharma company known as Glenmark Pharmaceuticals,
Ltd. had announced on Feb. 13, 2006 that it is planning to begin
clinical trials of a new diet pill that works in a much similar
manner to the much anticipated drug Acomplia (rimonabant) which
is going to arrive in the market later this year. Acomplia is going
to provide other benefits apart from weight loss.
Glenmark's drug which is called GRC 10389 is a
Cannabinoid [CB-1] receptor antagonist which appears to block signals
in the brain region that control cravings, reducing hunger pangs
and promoting weight loss very similar to the weight loss drug Acomplia.
Glenmark's obesity drug GRC 10389 is presently completing the pre-clinical
stage, and if its trials prove successful then it can be a big blessing
for the obese community.
