Anonymity of Americans to get Rimonabant from Europe
June 01, 2006
Recent story of Sanofi-Aventis is that they plan
to initiate Acomplia in Britain and Germany in mid-summer. Although,
U.S. Food and Drugs Administration is unpredictable for taking any
action on the approval of Acomplia in the United States at least
until sometime in 2007.
As Acomplia report says the arising question from U.S. readers is:
Can they have someone buy Acomplia for them in Europe, and ship
it to them in the United States?
Report's answers: Acomplia will be a prescription drug in Europe
and also it is unexpected that the drug would be available in 2006
across the world where prescription drugs can be purchased without
a prescription. So, the first challenge for potential American purchaser
would be the obtaining a prescription from a doctor in one of the
European countries where Acomplia would be, possibly, available.
Acomplia report also stated that although the FDA's Endocrinologic
and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee, a panel to consider Acomplia,
has cancelled all meetings for this year, meeting could yet be confirmed
on the basis of very short notice.
