As per the Reuters, Acomplia will be reimbursed in Sweden as an anti- obesity pill for obese and overweight patients along with health risks such as diabetes, as told by the French drug maker, Sanofi on Friday.
Sweden’s Pharmaceutical Benefits Board granted the reimbursement. Acomplia, is available on prescription in Sweden on Friday. Sanofi shares were down 0.68 percent at 66.25 euros at 0840 GMT, versus a 0.41 percent fall in the CAC – 40 index <FCHI>.
Denmark and Ireland have already reimbursed for Acomplia by the company. The drug is still awaiting U.S marketing approval but has been approved for prescription in the European Union. Citigroup on Friday cut its share price target on Sanofi Aventis to 68 euros from 70.50 euros with its forecast being “ critical pipeline hope Acomplia ” to represent less than 3 percent estimating 2010 sales of the group, or even less than 1 billion euros against a market consensus of 2 billion.
“likely lack of reimbursement in Germany, price pressures in France and Italy, six- month delay in U.S. and a U.S. label likely to be restricted to overweight diabetics ”. As cited by the Citigroup. Sanofi-Aventis had no immediate comment.
Acomplia’s fate being in either two or in six months by will be found out today if the U.S. Food and Drug Administration decides the decision through Sanofi.
