The news that's creating vibes all around is the WebMD's report that appeard online in the Cochrane Library. It reveals that only higher dose of Acomplia results in significant weight loss,the lower trial dose has been abandoned since long and even reducing the diet intake by 600 calories doesn't help.
This conclusion is reached based upon the analysis of the results of the four phase three clinical trails which were a part of the RIO i.e. Rimonabant in obesity, program. All these trails have been reported extensively, both in professional journals and at scientific meetings.
These clinical trials formed the basis of Acomplia's procedure to achieve approval from FDA a year and half ago. This is a highly anticipated drug. Sanofi Aventis,the developer of the drug has stalled the drug at FDA since this past february, though the reasons have not been made clear.
The report appeard in the current issue of the Cochrane library, which is a publication of the Cochrane collabration, i.e an international organization that evaluates research in all aspects of health care. Reported reviews led by Cintia Curioni of the State University of Rio de Janeiro states that, the use of rimonbant for an year creates weight loss of approximately 5% of the body weight, whereas placebo i.e. a 20 milligram pill produced a 4.9 kilogram greater weight loss in trials within an years time.
